We executed this project over three years, and it really stands as a testament to the concept that good things take time.
Our design process always begins the fall before our install season, and since this was a new construction with a walkout basement, we knew from the beginning we would want to split the installation over two years to allow for settling around the foundation.
Our clients had a very strong vision for their yard, which made designing a breeze. Our biggest hurdle was the soil condition and drainage. New builds are tricky. The builder has already set your grade points with the foundation of the house, so you make the most of what is already fixed on the site.
We laid out a large patio for the walkout basement that acts as a hangout space, but also allows for snow accumulation to be easily blown far out toward the back of the property and away from the foundation. We took the steeply sloped side of the house and built out a functional two-tiered space for bin storage and extra seating. Our clients knew they would be enjoying their yard day and night, so we designed a full lighting package that softly illuminates the beds and trees in the evenings.
Brick by Brick over-prepared our patio and retaining wall base with deep, compacted layers of base gravel and geogrid to make sure nothing moved once it was put in place.
The end result is a yard that perfectly frames the view of the golf course, whether you're sitting on the upper deck or the brick patio.
