OUR Mission

Prairie River Gardens wants to grow connection to the land and to the people. Growing a connection between the two can start in a garden.

So let’s reconnect. Let’s grow food for our family, let’s grow flowers for the bees, butterflies and your best friend. Let’s grow gardens because we all can. Anyone can garden and gardens are for everyone.

Prairie River Gardens is here to design and grow gardens with you, for you. We want you to feel connected to the space you are creating with us.

We design gardens for people longing to spend time enjoying their yard. We take your intentions & ideas and grow them into a space you will love connecting with.

Let’s grow together.

I grew up in my grandmother’s garden. It towered over my child self, like a forest.

Flowers and vegetables all mixed together. Well grandma..I’ve never stopped gardening. As you would know, It is a lifetime practise. My sense of self bloomed in my grandmother’s garden and from there it was tended by the wild landscape of Saskatchewan's Aspen Parkland. I am rooted to our prairie home. My connection sparked at a young age and I have carried it with me ever since. Being outside is my medicine. Whether I am working in a garden or walking in the forest. I belong outside, tending the plants, feeding the wild and sharing it all with you.

I have help. My mentor Janet has more than 25 years of experience gardening organically and managing a crew on both commercial and residential projects. I listen, observe and do my best to integrate her lessons into my business practise.

I will never stop learning. I have my certificate in Sustainable Urban Horticulture from theUniversity of Guelph, my bee keepers certificate from the Saskatchewan bee keepers association and my master composter certificate from the city of Saskatoon. Each spring I leap on the chance to study under Lyndon Penner when he comes to town for the U of S Hortweek program. This summerI plan to take a step towards more permaculture schooling through a Food Forestry workshop hosted by Richard Walkins.

Under the guidance of Janet Wanner of Gentle Earth Design Studios I discovered my aptitude and love of gardens design. At her recommendation I studied Sustainable Urban Horticulture from theUniversity of Guelph. With new understanding I saw our city green spaces as vital sanctuaries for life. I am grateful to do what I love and be supported doing it.

I am here to support you in your garden as best I can. I aim to make myself available to answer questions and connect with you. I am thrilled to reconnect with my clients each spring.

Samantha has been a part of PRG since 2020! Sam has been a true godsend and many of our regular clients request her personally! Saying Sam is a hard worker would be an understatement. Sam understands the vision of Prairie River Gardens and she brings her own vision and eye for design to our clientele.

Sam launched her business Highbush Floral in 2023! Watching her build her skillset and brand has been so inspiring and I am very excited to continue to work with her throughout the summer! Plus now we get to do collaborations!

Thank you for being such a great friend and teammate Samantha!
