We were very excited to be asked to create a rambling annual garden for this beautifully landscaped home. Our process started as always with a Pinterest board where we compiled inspiration photos for our client to look through. The image that captured their imagination was bursting with oranges, purples and softer silvers. We bought Boychuck Greenhouses out of their Meteor Shower verbena, my favorite annual flower. All together we planted 10 different annual flowers as well as some perennial flowers. Our client then asked us to update the ground cover on the existing beds throughout the property. The beds were covered in a thick layer of black lava rock on top of landscape fabric. Many plants were being choked by the landscape fabric and an army of weeds had also infiltrated the fabric. Landscape Fabric is absolute trash and has no place in a garden! We pulled up all the rock and fabric giving the soil underneath a chance to breathe. We then mulched the beds with a natural mulch made from Fir tree bark and filled in gaps with more hostas, catmint and astilbes.
