When Molly Schikosky and I arrived to snap photos for this project our hearts melted to see the small toys left out by kids who had turned the front step into their own world. It is so gratifying to work for families and see the space we have designed come to embrace them. The steep slope of this front yard was tricky to work with and so we split the project into a two year process. The first year Dillan from Brick by Brick came in once Spruce Homes and finished the build. Dillan graded front and back, established the irrigation system and prepped the site for us to lay sod. We planted our cedars and large trees that first spring. Lost River Timber also built a custom sand box in the backyard and established the fences and gates. Over the following winter I worked with our clients to come up with a design for the front yard that would allow them to landscape without the cost of an expensive retaining wall system to break up the slope of the yard. We decided on using these beautiful Dimensional Slab steps from Barkman Concrete that have a deep tread allowing us to use less steps to span the rise of the slope.
